This morning I prayed the first prayer for the Novena then checked out facebook where on someones’s status there was a short reflection reminding us that when there is a campfire on a cool night you are warm standing near it, but when you walk away, though the fire still gives off warmth, you grow colder. It was followed by the recommendation to stay near to Christ. Afterwards my husband and I went to Mass which was followed by adoration. Around the altar it was ablaze with light with all the Christmas tree lights on and the light from the overhead stained glass. As I was departing from the Blessed Sacrament exposed I recalled the morning’s image of walking away from the campfire and growing colder . But of course I wasn’t leaving Jesus behind! And then I thought about the imagery in Fanning the Flame — and there was a breeze of the Holy Spirit in a gentleness that warmed and said this is what the year ahead is about: being ever confident in the nearness of God and knowing Him and yielding to His reign in our lives! Lord, May it be so!
